1 - NIGHTINGALE

THE NIGHTINGALE SINGS IN THE SEASON OF LOVE,
WHILE THE WHIPPORWILL SLEEPS ON A BRANCH NEAR THE DOVE.
THE BEETHOVEN OF BIRDS, HE SINGS AN EVER-CHANGING TUNE,
OF HIS LOVE FOR THE ROSE AND THE BRIGHT, CRESCENT MOON.

NIGHTINGALE
IF SLEEPING EARS CAN’T HEAR YOUR SWEET SONG
NIGHTINGALE
I’LL SING YOUR MELODY FROM THE MOUNTAIN TO THE SEA,
AND TEACH THE WHOLE WORLD TO SING ALONG.

FEW ARE THE LOVERS IN THIS SEASON OF SPRING,
WHO HAVE WALKED IN THE GARDEN WHERE THE NIGHTINGALE SINGS.
ENAMORED BY THE SOUND OF HIS HEAVENLY SONG,
THEY DANCE AMONG THE ROSES ALL NIGHT LONG.

CHORUS

NIGHTINGALE
NIGHTINGALE

2 – O EARTH

O earth, O earth, O earth
Made the foot-stool of thy God
O earth, O earth, O earth
Chosen as the seat of His mighty throne

Great is thy blessedness, O earth, O earth
Would that my life could be sacrificed for thee
For He Who is the Beloved of the All-Merciful
Upon thee hath established His sovereignty

O earth, O earth, O earth
Made the foot-stool of thy God
O earth, O earth, O earth
Chosen as the seat of His mighty throne
Chosen as the seat of His mighty throne
Chosen as the seat of His mighty throne

Quotation Referenced:

'Great is thy blessedness, O earth, for thou hast been made
the foot-stool of thy God, and been chosen as the seat of His
mighty throne.' The realm of glory exclaimeth: 'Would that
my life could be sacrificed for thee, for He Who is the
Beloved of the All-Merciful hath established His sovereignty
upon thee, through the power of His Name that hath been…

3 – RED ROAN STALLION

ON THE DAY MY LORD LEFT BAGHDAD, EVERY FACE WAS BATHED IN TEARS.
I STOOD IN THE CROWD BY THE ROADSIDE, WAITING FOR HIS FACE TO APPEAR.

WE HEARD A VOICE CRY OUT "HE APPROACHES". MY BODY TREMBLED AND MY SPIRIT MOANED.
TO SEE THE LORD SEATED ON A ROAN STALLION, LIKE A KING UPON A GOLDEN THRONE.

HE RODE A RED ROAN STALLION. A RED ROAN STALLION.

I PUSHED THROUGH THE CROWD TO GET CLOSER. HEADS WERE BOWED TO THE DUST ON EVERY SIDE.
BUT HIS EYES WERE FIXED ON THE FUTURE, AS HE BEGAN HIS WESTWARD RIDE.

ON THE RED ROAN STALLION. THE RED ROAN STALLION.
HE RODE A RED ROAN STALLION.

I THREW MYSELF DOWN TO THE ROADWAY.
REACHED UP TO TOUCH THE HEM OF HIS ROBE.
FELT HIS HAND BRUSH AGAINST MY FINGERS,
AS THE STALLION SPED OFF DOWN THE ROAD.

AS HE GALLOPED OFF TOWARD THE SUNSET, MY SPIRIT GREW HEAVY WITH GRIEF.
MY HEART RODE AWAY WITH THAT STALLION. AND PASSING YEARS HAVE BROUGHT LITTLE RELIEF.

HE RODE A RED ROAN STALLION, A RED ROAN STALLION.
HE RODE A RED ROAN STALLION, A RED ROAN STALLION,
A RED ROAN STALLION.

4 - MAKE ME A MOUNTAIN

LORD, MAKE ME A MOUNTAIN,
A MIGHTY MOUNTAIN,
A TOWERING ROCK OF FAITH.

THAT MY LIFE MAY PROVE
A FAITH TOO HEAVY TO MOVE.
OH LORD, MAKE ME AN IMMOVABLE MOUNTAIN.
LORD, MAKE ME AN IMMOVABLE MOUNTAIN.

CAUSE MY LIFE'S BEEN HILLS, VALLEYS, DESERTS AND CAVES.
I'VE BEEN A SHIP WITHOUT AN ANCHOR.
BUT NOW I'VE SEEN THE GLORY OF THE SUMMIT THAT SAVES
AND I WANT TO STAND IN THE LIGHT FOREVER.

SO I ASK YOU, LORD, TO MAKE ME A MOUNTAIN,
A MIGHTY MOUNTAIN.
OH LORD, MAKE ME AN IMMOVABLE MOUNTAIN.
LORD, MAKE ME AN IMMOVABLE MOUNTAIN.
MAKE ME A MOUNTAIN.
LORD, MAKE ME AN IMMOVABLE MOUNTAIN.

5 – THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want.
The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters....

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me:
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.....

...goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life:
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
for ever........for ever.

The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want.
The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters....
he leadeth me beside the still waters....
The Lord is my shepherd....

6 - CRACK IN THE WALL

THE MASTER HAD TOLD HIM TO MEET HIM AT DAWN.
HE WOKE UP AT FOUR AND BY FIVE HE WAS GONE.
HIS HEART WAS POUNDING AS THE TRAIN PULLED AWAY,
FOR TODAY THE MASTER WOULD TEACH HIM TO PRAY.

HE ARRIVED AT SIX. THE DOOR WAS AJAR.
AND THERE RAPT IN PRAYER KNELT 'ABDU'L-BAHA.
HE FELL TO HIS KNEES, FEELING HUMBLE AND SMALL.
AND AS HE CLOSED HIS EYES TO PRAY, HE SAW A CRACK IN THE WALL.

A CRACK IN THE WALL. A CRACK IN THE WALL.
OO-OO-OO, A CRACK IN THE WALL.

WONDERING WHEN HIS LESSON WAS GOING TO BEGIN,
HE SILENTLY PRAYED FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS -
FOR THE QUEEN OF ENGLAND AND THE KING OF SPAIN.
HE BLESSED THEM ALL IN GOD'S GOOD NAME.

BUT AFTER WAITING AN HOUR, HIS ANGER GREW.
HIS BACK WAS HURTING AND HIS KNEES WERE THROUGH.
OUTSIDE THE WINDOW HE HEARD A BLUEBIRD CALL.
THEN HE OPENED HIS EYES AND SAW THAT CRACK IN THE WALL.

A CRACK IN THE WALL. A CRACK IN THE WALL.
OO-OO-OO, A CRACK IN THE WALL.

WITH BIRDS A SINGING, HIS BODY IN PAIN.
HE STARED AT THAT CRACK, WONDERING WHY HE CAME.
THEN HE LOWERED HIS EYES AND HIS HEART FILLED WITH AWE,
TO SEE THE PEACEFUL, HOLY FACE OF 'ABDU'L-BAHA.

HE SAID, LORD, I WANT TO PRAY LIKE THAT!
HE FORGOT ABOUT THE BIRDS, THE PAIN AND THE CRACK.
THE MASTER HAD TAUGHT HIM WITHOUT A WORD AT ALL.
HIS DOORWAY TO HEAVEN WAS THAT CRACK IN THE WALL.

A CRACK IN THE WALL. A CRACK IN THE WALL.
HIS DOORWAY TO HEAVEN WAS A CRACK IN THE WALL.

A CRACK IN THE WALL. A CRACK IN THE WALL.
HIS DOORWAY TO HEAVEN WAS A CRACK IN THE WALL.
OO-OO-OO, A CRACK IN THE WALL.
OO-OO-OO, A CRACK IN THE WALL.

7 - TRACE OF THE TRACELESS

I HAVE SEEN THE STARS FALL FROM HEAVEN.
I HAVE FELT THE EARTH SHAKE AND MOAN.
AND I HAVE WONDERED IN SEARCH OF THE ANSWERS
TO QUESTIONS YET UNKNOWN, TO QUESTIONS YET UNKNOWN.

I HAVE SLIPPED ON THE WALLS OF REASON.
I HAVE DARED TO STARE AT THE SUN.
AND I'VE ABANDONED THE WISDOM OF AGES

TO FIND A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS
A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS
A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS ONE.

I HAVE CLIMBED TO THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN.
I HAVE SAILED OVER EVERY OCEAN.
AND I'VE CONSORTED WITH ANGELS AND DEMONS

TO FIND A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS
A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS
A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS ONE.

OH LORD, I WANT TO KNOW YOU BUT IT SEEMS SO HARD.
AND THE JOURNEY FROM ME TO YOU IS SO FAR.
IF A SOARING BIRD LEAVES NO TRACKS IN THE SKY,
THEN WHERE SHALL I LOOK AND HOW WILL I FIND?

A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS
A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS
A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS ONE.
A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS ONE.
A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS ONE.
A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS ONE.
A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS ONE.
A TRACE OF THE TRACELESS ONE.

8 – THE WATCHMAN

THERE WAS A LOVER WHO SIGHED FOR LONG YEARS
IN SEPARATION FROM HIS LOVE.
A THOUSAND LIVES HE WOULD HAVE GIVEN
TO BASK ONE MOMENT IN HER SUN.

HIS BODY WEARY OF HIS SPIRIT
HE RECKONED LIFE A MOCKERY.
DOCTORS KNEW NO CURE FOR HIM.
COMPANIONS AVOIDED HIS COMPANY.

AND WHILE THE LOVER CRIED AT HIS DOOR
THE WATCHMAN, OH-OH, SHARPENED HIS SWORD.

THEN ONE NIGHT HE LEFT HIS HOME
TO WALK THE STREETS OF THE CITY.
AND SEEING A WATCHMAN FOLLOW AFTER,
HE TURNED AND BEGAN TO FLEE.

AND WHEN THE LOVER STARTED TO RUN
THE WATCHMAN, OH-OH, FIRED HIS GUN.

THEN HE RAN AWAY INTO A COURTYARD,
SCALED A WALL WITH UNTOLD PAIN,
AND AS HE THREW HIMSELF DOWN TO A GARDEN,
HE HEARD A WOMAN CALL OUT HIS NAME.

AND THERE BEFORE HIM LIKE A VISION
STOOD HIS RAVISHING LOVE.
HE CRIED, "O LORD, BLESS THE WATCHMAN
WITH RICHES AND GLORY FROM ABOVE."

AND WHILE THE LOVER HELD HIS LOVE NEAR,
THE WATCHMAN, OH-OH, DISAPPEARED.
AND WHILE THE LOVE HELD HIS LOVE NEAR,
THE WATCHMAN, OH-OH, DISAPPEARED.
